30 Years of The Penola Coonawarra Arts Festival

It is that time of year again and this year we are celebrating 30 years of The Penola Coonawarra Arts Festival with a fabulous line up of experiences for you to enjoy from Thursday 12th to Sunday 15th of May. From exhibitions and activities, to performances and stuff for the kids, there is bound to be something that tickles your fancy and draws you to our town.

Yallum Park

Starting on Thursday the 12th of May, the festival kicks off with the Portraits of Penola Women exhibition, running all weekend for you to have a squizz at. If you prefer something a bit more hands on then maybe one of the activities running throughout the weekend is your cup of tea! You can do Art at Yallum or attend the Farmers and Makers Markets, and these are only a couple of the amazing activities you can get involved in. The kids can even get their hands dirty with Kids Get Crafty workshops, unfortunately this is not a babysitting service whilst you go off and check out the wineries, so just keep that in mind when you are booking! If you want a nice family day out however, there is Kids p-ART-y which involves kids art activities running all day for the kids and their families, including free food and drink for the duration!

Sunflower Art

Moss & Wild will also be hosting an art exhibition for the weekend by Chelsea Kuhl, named My Life Is A Dot. Chelsea is an artist who instead of using a paintbrush the traditional way, has switched it up and created dot paintings using the tip of the brush handle, this technique often called pointillism/stippling. The ticket pricing will be a gold coin donation to a charity of Chelsea’s choice with the exhibition starting from 5:30pm on Friday. We look forward to seeing what Chelsea has created and hope to see you all there to support this young and upcoming artist.

In amongst all of these amazing experiences, the local wineries and cafes are operating as normal, so if you prefer to people watch rather than getting involved, these venues are the perfect places to pause! Moss & Wild will be serving up beautiful brews and tasty toasties all weekend (even Sunday… lucky you!), whilst the nearby wineries offer tastings throughout the day. We look forward to seeing you during this crazy weekend that brings Penola to life!
