It's Cabernet month in Coonawarra!

If there’s a time to visit Penola and South Australia’s Coonawarra wine region, October couldn’t be more perfect.

We’ll give you two reasons why.

1. Spring is well underway and who doesn’t love a wine on a sunny afternoon? 2. October’s Cabernet month brings over 70 tastings and wine events to the region.

Count us in!

If you know our team well enough, you’ll be aware that there is a special place in our hearts saved solely for the beautiful Coonawarra wine region (there isn’t a drop of red that we haven’t tasted!). So, you can only imagine how excited we are about supporting and promoting October’s Cabernet Month Calendar for our local community.

This Spring, the Coonawarra is inviting visitors to “celebrate, educate and activate their senses”. Regional produce will also be on display throughout the month at the long list of ticketed and free events (find them here).

Sign up for a family friendly day out with chilled tunes, a picnic in the vines, paella, bubbles, and brekkie rolls… or for the wine enthusiasts perhaps a decade of tastings is right up your alley? Whichever the event, we can promise you a wonderful time (our long history of attendance says so).

The best part? Our doors will be open just down the road for your lunch stops, coffee calls and retail therapy cravings!

As more and more people are discovering that there is much to explore in our beautiful South Aussie backyard, we have been thrilled to meet new visitors who are dropping their pin in Penola.

So now that we’ve established where you should head for stop one on your Cabernet Month itinerary (Moss & Wild, of course), let us finish your list with a few of our favourite MUSTS…

The Coonawarra Wineries Walking Trail:
Sunshine, exercise and good times!
We cannot recommend this enough. Slip on your walking shoes and take the trail to 6 of Coonawarra’s local wineries, including Brand’s Laira, Ottelia + Fodder, Wynns, DiGiorgio, Redman and Zema. Exercise and wine? It is bound to be good for the soul.

Sparkling Cabernet Breakfast at Balnaves:
Here at Moss and Wild, we are suckers for anything with bubbles - and so you can only imagine our excitement at the thought of a hot breakfast alongside a few glasses of Sparkling cab this October! Our friends at Balnaves, will be serving up gourmet breakfast rolls and bubbles by the glass on Saturday October 16th and going by the buzz of previous years, this event is one not to miss!

Raidis Estate Spring Shindig:
The team at Raidis are well known for their regular cook-ups and family friendly live music events (trust us the kids will love it). Swing past their Cellar Door on the last Saturday in October to enjoy good wine, beer, cider and of course – food. Chris will be cooking up his famous charcoal grill, so it’s safe to say that tickets will be selling quick! Be sure to book yours before they go!

Make your own blend at Wynns:
Play winemaker for the day (if only) amongst the stunning scenery at Wynns Coonawarra Estate. The Wynn’s team will have you blending in no time using cabernet, shiraz, and merlot varieties. Top it off by taking home your own wine suited to your personal taste in a personalised bottle (there won’t be a moment wasted between the lab and a glass in our hands)!

You can find the full itinerary for Cabernet Month’s Activities on the Coonawarra website https://coonawarra.org/.

We’ll be brewing coffees and providing positive vibes on the main street as always from 8.30am to 3pm. Make sure you pop in and say hi!
