School Holiday Fun
With the school holidays and Easter upon us, we all scramble to find activities to keep little busy-bodies active, without sparing some fun for the adults too. We have compiled a list of things to do and places to see that the Coonawarra region has to offer. Whether it’s long lunches and wonderful wines or something with a bit of history, there are activities to suit each and every personality.
NARACOORTE CAVES
Being the only South Australian World Heritage listed site, the Naracoorte Caves are a must visit these school holidays! With a range of tours to choose from, you can pick one that suits your level of comfortability and interests. The 5 different caves are all available to tour, with prices ranging between $10.50 to $128 and time slots to fit in with your schedule. Embrace your inner Indiana Jones and start exploring these 800,000 year old caves.
BELLWETHER GLAMPING
If you cringe at the idea of camping, then maybe glamping is your thing! Bellwether Wines and their beautiful range of bell tents bring a whole new meaning to camping, ensuring you have comfortable beds, cosy tents and a bottle of red in hand. With a range of configurations to suit your party size, the bell tents are perfect for a family camp out, romantic getaway or fun with friends.
PETTICOAT LANE
Take a stroll through Petticoat Lane in Penola, a location full of historic timber and stone cottages that retain the character and charm of the oldest residential area in the town. Petticoat Lane is open daily for you to wander, and once you’re done, pop in to see us at Moss & Wild for a caffeine kick and sourdough toastie!
ST MARY’S DISTILLERY AND GARDEN
Did someone say gin?! We are there!!
The St Mary’s Distillery and Garden is the most beautiful place to sip on cocktails and wander through the luscious greenery the garden has to offer. With vodka, gin and wines to choose from, you will find something that takes your fancy, whilst the kids roam the grounds. The veggie patch is open for you to sticky beak around and take down some inspo for your own gardens, but make sure you shut the gate behind you so the resident geese don’t escape!
Whether it is stunningly sunny or dreadfully dreary, the cellar door is perfect for either, especially the comfy Chesterfield armchairs to cosy up in! Pop in for a G&T to make the school holidays that little bit more entertaining for the kids and bearable for the parents!
MOUNT GAMBIER BLUE LAKE AND SINKHOLE
If you have some time to spare and feel like branching out a bit further than just the Coonawarra area, Mount Gambier has some amazing attractions too! The Blue Lake/Warwar in Mount Gambier occupies one of the craters of the extinct volcano after which the city has been named. You can also walk around the circumference of the lake in just 3.6kms, taking in the beautiful colour that varies month to month.
The Umpherston Sinkhole/Balumbul is another beauty that Mount Gambier has to offer. Available to visit at any time, the Sinkhole has an abundance of flora and fauna to experience as you walk along the top and down into the base amongst the vines. Watch out for the possum family that resides there when the sun goes down, they won’t want their evening to be disturbed!
MOSS AND WILD
Once you have explored all that the Coonawarra has to offer, pop into Moss & Wild to enjoy our cafe and retail goodies!
We have a beautiful courtyard for you to soak up all the sun and the little ones are sure to love our kids menu, full of sausage rolls, toasties and milkshakes! Come in and enjoy some caffeine, good food and humorous chat with our girls! We can’t wait to see you soon! Happy Holidays and Happy Easter x
